Fly Fishing in and near Belleek

Fly fishing in Ballina, the scenic area of Lough Conn and Lough Cullin offers a superb locale to cast for wild trout, sea trout and salmon. There are walks through the Ox mountains along the Foxword way and the area also has the well-known Foxword Woollen Mills, golf courses and activities such as horse riding. Here you can fish the River Moy where qualified guides can take you to their secret spots for the most successful fishing. It is renowned for its rod-caught salmon which is caught by the thousands every year.

Those fly fishing in Derry and surrounds should head out to Foyle Fishery System, where the River Mourne yields some excellent salmon fishing spots to those patient enough to seek them out. You can also catch sea trout on the River Mourne, with the largest trout available from early to mid June and the smaller trout from July to the end of the season.

Lough Neagh is the largest natural freshwater lake in the British Isles and makes for some great fly fishing in Belfast and surrounds. The vast lake is home to a unique species of wild brown trout known as the "dollaghan trout". Fish in the Lough tend to grow fairly large, and fly fishing is the most rewarding way to catch these big fish. The rivers that feed into Lough Neagh also provide challenging sport, and are full of both trout and Atlantic Salmon.

When fly fishing in Clifden, make sure to include the River Erriff in your itinerary. One of the best salmon rivers in Ireland, it boasts 13 kilometres of prime angling water and is characterised by fast-flowing streams and deep pools full of fish. The fishing spots are generally uncrowded, and the river is also a good place to catch sea trout, especially from July onwards.
