Many Irish farms open their doors to visitors to share Ireland's rich agricultural heritage and rural way of life. There are show farms all over the country showcasing a wide variety of farming styles and types. Many of these farms are still family run and their owners follow in the friendly Irish tradition of welcoming visitors.

One of the most well-known Irish show farms is The Bailey Farm near Carlow. This 120 acre farm with its 110 head strong dairy cow herd is famous for one thing: Bailey's Irish Cream. The milk from these cows is used exclusively to make the delicious creamy liqueur and the farm was awarded the 2002 “vineyard” of the year award for the superior taste of the popular drink. This farm is still family run, and tours are conducted by the owners themselves.

If you are looking for something fun to do with the kids, look no further than the Newgrange Farm near Drogheda in County Louth. Kids can bottle-feed the adorable baby animals and they host fun-filled sheep races on Sundays. The owners also host guided archaeological tours of the area and educational tours of the farm.

The Holy Cross Rare Breeds Farm near Cashel in County Tipperary is home to over 70 breeds of animals and birds, most of which have been declared as rare by their breeding societies. These include the lovely and unusual Kerry Bog Ponies and Irish Moiled Cattle, and an ancient orchard provides a natural setting for over 20 breeds of exotic birds from South East Asia, as well as a collection of rare bantams and large fowl.
