Thrill seekers should head to Barrys Amusements just outside Portstewart in Northern Ireland, Ireland's largest theme park, packed with fantastic rides that are guaranteed to leave everyone grinning from ear to ear. Scream at the top of your lungs on Freak Out, a top-class thriller ride, get into a crazy traffic jam in their Dodgem Cars, or go for a whirlwind ride on the spinning Cyclone carriages. For some extreme knuckle whitening thrills, take a trip on the Looping Star Rollercoaster, which turns you around 360 degrees for a unique view of the scenic Causeway Coast. What's a fairground without a charming Carousel? Children will also love pretending to be adventurous princesses or cowboys on the park's beautiful 100 year old 'gallopers'. If you'd like to see a vivid picture of how Irish people lived over 100 years ago, visit Bunratty Folk Park, a living reconstruction of a 19th century village, complete with farmhouses, village streets and shops, and residences ranging from the poorest one-roomed home to Bunratty House, an elegant Georgian residence dating from 1804. Costumed characters recreate the lifestyles of the past and allow visitors to meet villagers such as a miller, blacksmith, baker and schoolteacher, who demonstrate their various trades.

Another activity park recreating an aspect of Ireland's rich heritage is Celtic Park in Adare, which features exhibits of some of the significant structures of ancient Ireland. A stone circle,, dolmen, lake dwelling and Celtic chieftain chair are just a few of the reconstructed artefacts from Celtic history, all set in beautiful gardens with spectacular views over the West Limerick countryside.

For something really delightful that will interest adults and children alike, visit the Model Railway Village in Clonakility near Cork where Clonakility Village is recreated in miniature as it was in the 1940s, complete with a working replica of the West Cork Railway Line.

Would you like to journey back in time to the era of the Vikings? You don't' need to time travel when you visit Dublin's Viking Adventure, an interactive experience recreating life in the Norse city. You travel on a Viking ship through stormy seas before arriving at the Dublin Docks as they were when the invaders from the north arrived. You then travel to the Norse settlement where you can meet the local tradesmen and townspeople and experience the smells, sights and sounds of everyday life in Viking Ireland.

Everyone knows the spine chilling story of Dracula, but not everyone realises that its author, Bram Stoker, was born and educated in Ireland. The Bram Stoker Dracula Experience in Dublin reminds visitors of the Irish heritage of this famous horror writer, and takes them on a entertaining and scary journey through Castle Dracula, retelling the terrifying tale of the Count and his victims. The frightening walk-through includes a gruesome Torture Chamber, and passages filled with cobwebs, talking gargoyles, bats and other beastly creatures of the night all guaranteed to scare the living daylights out of you!
